We Are In Earth’s 6th Mass Extinction

Here are the facts:

1. The modern rate of extinction across species is 1,000 times that of the background rate before humans began altering the globe.

2. The world’s remaining animals with backbones are 25 percent less abundant than in 1500 AD, with 320 species becoming extinct over the period of time since then.

3. “There are only about 20,000 lions left in Africa, according to Dereck Joubert, a National Geographic explorer and filmmaker who lives among the iconic big cats in Botswana. “About 50 years ago, there were 450,000 lions — a decline of more than 95 percent, he said. “About five wild lions are killed every day throughout Africa”, Joubert added.

4. “There are a total of about 300,000 African elephants left, and as many as 40,000 are killed each year. With these levels, elephants won’t be around for much longer”, Joubert said.

5. As many as 30%-50% of all species are heading toward extinction by mid-century, reports the Institute for Biological Diversity.

6. “One estimate of the present rate of extinction could be up to 140,000 species gone each year”, reports Linda Moulton Howe, researcher and investigator at earthfiles.com

7. Ocean acidity is killing off or damaging shellfish, oysters, clams, scallops, lobsters, crabs, and shrimp. All sources of food for humans. The corral is being devastated as well.

8. By 2050 at least 70% of ‘sea butterflies’ or pteropods will have severe shell damage. If they were to die out there would be severe consequences for salmon, herring and other fish that rely on them for food.

9. “What is really unusual about this extinction event is that the climate is changing anywhere between 10 and 100 times faster than even the previous extinction events”, said Chris Langdon, Marine Biologist at Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.

There is an avalanche of information beyond these 9 facts. Reports on a die off of sea stars at the end of August, 2014. A die off of moose in Minnesota reported in late 2013. Monarch Butterflies at record low numbers. Bird and fish die offs by the millions.

Combine this with catastrophic storms, droughts, epic industrial disasters such as the BP oil spill and Fukushima, there leaves no room for doubt. Psychopaths are killing the planet and all life on it.

One main culprit is Geo-engineering. View this video recently recorded by a woman in Alberta, Canada. Now we can add trees and shrubbery to the list.

I’ve barely touched on the implications of all this. And I haven’t listed any solutions. The final stage in grief is ‘acceptance’.

Share this Truth with everyone you know and help open eyes. Then we can all talk about solutions.
